New Coffee Joint, Bungalow Joe’s, Opens up in Berwyn’s Depot District!
WE WELCOME BUNGALOW JOE’S TO THE COMMUNITY OF BERWYN!
WE’RE HAPPY TO HAVE YOU! CONGRATULATIONS!
A caffeine jolt is the culmination of most morning routines. For those commuting on the Metra BNSF line, Bungalow Joe’s Coffee, LLC (bungalowjoescoffee.wix.com/bungalowjoescoffee) has paired fresh, quality coffee with a convenient site. Located in the Harlem Avenue Metra station at 7135 Windsor Ave, Bungalow Joe’s Coffee purveys coffee, tea, muffins and pastries. In partnership with the City of Berwyn and Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC), Bungalow Joe’s Coffee held a grand opening celebration on Dec 9.
Bungalow Joe’s Coffee was established by Berwyn resident Marcel Townsel. Marcel’s food service experience started in garrison and field operations in the military where he honorably prepared timely, hot meals for soldiers. Today, he has channeled that experience into his love for coffee. The shop serves premium coffee and teas from around the world, sourced from Chicago’s independent coffee roaster The Coffee and Tea Exchange. Bungalow Joe’s stands by its mission to provide hot, rich coffee by making fresh brews hourly. The shop also uses filtered water to ensure the best taste possible.
Bungalow Joe’s name is based off of Berwyn’s ubiquitous housing style, the bungalow. Marcel adds to the shop’s distinction by sharing his expertise for creating his own coffee blends. In addition to the primary menu, he will experiment with the changing seasons. Plans are in place to sell newly created coffee blends for home consumption as well as wholesale. What’s more, the station has been the home for a local chess club, and he hopes to reach out to local artists.
Marcel welcomed guests and stated, “I am privileged to be a part of Berwyn’s Depot District. I’m passionate about providing fresh, hot coffee every hour for residents and our commuters. Our menu has great flavors and blends from a local roaster, and I’m proud to work with other great local businesses like Turano for our baked goods. Thank you all for your support.”
Mal Montoya, BDC Board President, commented, “Bungalow Joe’s is a great addition to the Depot District and for Metra commuters. Welcome to Berwyn.” Mayor Robert J. Lovero concluded, “It’s always great to see a Berwyn resident opening a new business in town. I know that Marcel has great plans to make this work. Best of luck.”
