Meet Aaron Mitchell, Creative Mastermind behind The Outta Space

Hometown: Fort Lupton, CO
Current Residence: Berwyn, IL
Aaron’s Bio: Aaron Mitchell has been a Berwyn resident for 9 years and lives here with his wife Jenny and three kids Harvey, Juney and Hudson. He’s an artist and musician playing with the local band Dirty Green. Aaron spent over 15 years working in the non-profit world teaching art and coordinating creative enrichment programs for an inner-city Arts & Tutoring program in Chicago before opening up The Outta Space in Berwyn last spring in Berwyn IL.

The Business Side: The Outta Space is an “outta” the ordinary space designed to inspire creation, collaboration and communication. Wearing many hats, this eclectic and inviting space is….

  • A night-life destination, complete with a bar serving local brews and spirits and live entertainment, such as musical performances, variety and comedy shows;
  • An artist’s creative playground, providing a space for art exhibits and workspace for artists of all disciplines and levels;
  • An educational center for those who want to take classes in a relaxed atmosphere, featuring classes such as “Intro to Acting,” “Intro to Improv,” and more!

In the Outta environment, everyone is welcome. Outta’s Tuesday night workshops and talks explore creativity and art for all levels; come out at 8pm—the bar will be open! Get your funny on with Improv Classes coming up on Wednesdays, followed by an Improv show and comedic Improv Jam! Enjoy live music every weekend Thursday through Saturday and catch art shows at the beginning of each month.

The Outta Space’s Vision
The Outta Space inspires collaboration, creation and communication and supports artists, musicians, creators and community members by providing a positive and powerful vehicle to exhibit, perform, learn, teach, and celebrate community collaboration.

Describe yourself using 3 words and explain why you chose those words.
Collaborative: I believe that collaboration in its best form elevates everyone who is involved. Collaborating with other artists, businesses and organizations allows for innovative ideas and experiences to come to fruition.
Creative: I enjoy creating music and art. I find that these art forms give us the ability to communicate with others in a way that is not always possible through regular modes of communication.
Community-Oriented: Communities thrive when people put forth their talents and passions and excel when those talents and passions are directed towards bringing people together.

What inspires you?
People who go above and beyond to inspire or help others is what inspires me. I’ve always aspired to be like the altruistic leaders and mindful creators of the world who work towards a better world for all creatures great and small.

Tell us something that people might not know about you.
I was born and raised in Colorado and grew up in a small rural town—Fort Lupton, CO. I went to school for Theater and moved to Chicago after college. I acted in the city for several years before changing my focus towards creating music and art. I spent over 15 years in Chicago before moving to Berwyn with my family.

What is your fondest memory?
My wedding day is one of my fondest memories. We threw a big party in a barn in Wisconsin with a Bluegrass band and local BBQ. So many beloved friends and family members were there to celebrate. The most amazing part was marrying my beautiful and spirited wife Jenny in which we committed ourselves to making all our dreams come true!

If we were to hang out, what would we do?
We’d definitely listen to live music and partake in adult beverages. We’d probably dance, sing and stay up too late. It would be smart if we started out somewhere for a delicious dinner before the night begins!

Which place would you most like to visit and why?
Right now I’ve got my eye on Austin, TX. Not only do I want to play music there sometime soon, but I want to explore the art and music venues they have out there. Everyone I know tells me I would love Austin because it has such a vibrant scene and great food. Sounds like my cup of tea.

Enjoy live music, art, food and activities for the whole family at Groovin’ on Grove on Saturday, July 15 from NOON until 11pm in the Depot District! Don’t miss out on all the fun while supporting the local Berwyn Art & Music scene.
