26th Street Welcomes Haven For Creativity – Welcome to Berwyn, Mil Artes!
With the fall and winter holidays just around the corner, people who will be hosting a holiday get-together will be on the hunt for a business where they can quickly and affordably get the party supplies they need to make their events special. Mil Artes, located at 6306 26th St, is Berwyn’s newest arts and crafts shop, offering materials, creative services and craft classes for all occasions. In partnership with the City of Berwyn and Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC), Mil Artes held a grand opening celebration on August 6.
Mil Artes offers a large selection of high quality, hand-selected materials and party décor at affordable prices. The shop carries a wide variety of seasonal and everyday party items for everything from weddings, birthdays and baby showers to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Owner Julia Aillon noted, “I am working to create great memories for my customers. I want to help them celebrate the eventful moments in their lives. We provide access to materials so that our customers can make their events special. If they need extra help, we provide guided instruction if they want to do it themselves and creative services for those that are seeking a full service experience.”
Mil Artes stocks all manner of material, including ribbons, balloons, invitations, party favors, center pieces, table decorations, corsages, and more. They can design any type of item, shape or style and can accommodate a rainbow of colors. Many materials can be personalized with engraving and imprinting. For the DIY crowd, she schedules workshops in a one-on-one setting so that her clients have the chance to be hands-on with their own artistic expression. The low-cost, one-time registration fee is $20 and includes unlimited in-store instruction. Attendees simply purchase their own materials after initial registration.
As an artist, Julia has been providing handicraft and arts workshops for many years, starting with family-hosted arts workshops with seniors in her native Ecuador. For the past ten years, she has applied her talents entrepreneurially, starting her business at home and expanding into her approximately 3,000 sf space.
Mayor Robert Lovero commented, “This is a very unique store. I understand you were in Chicago and Cicero and now Berwyn. I hope this is your final home and wish you the best of luck.” Mal Montoya, BDC Board President, continued, “We welcome your entrepreneurship and creativity to Berwyn. The BDC is here to support you, and we’re confident that this location will be successful.”
Mil Artes is open on Monday from 12:30PM – 6:30PM, Tuesday-Friday from 10:30AM – 6:30PM and Saturday from 10:30AM – 3:30PM.
