KaBOOM! and Disney come to Berwyn to build Brocato Playground

Last Saturday, more than 200 volunteers gathered at Brocato Playground, formerly known as Cuyler Park, to erect a vibrant neighborhood gathering space in less than eight hours. Planning for the playground began at a Design Day event held in April when local children were asked to design their dream playground. The resulting playground area also includes a vegetable garden where children will have the opportunity to grow healthy food and receive hands-on learning about nutrition.

The day’s activities were co-organized by the North Berwyn Park District, in conjunction with KaBOOM! and Disney. KaBOOM! is a charity with a mission to provide play areas for children around the country. Disney provided funding for the project. ABC7 covered the event.

A Grand Opening event will take place on Saturday, June 11 at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of 19th & Cuyler and is open to the community. The playground was posthumously dedicated to Alderman Ben Brocato who served 10 years as 5th Ward Alderman and was a 37-year Berwyn resident.
