National Night Out celebration August 2nd
Berwyn’s National Night Out 2011 celebration takes place Tuesday, August 2 at Morton West High School, 2400 Home Avenue. The annual NNO event, now in its 28th year, is held to help raise awareness about public safety issues and foster partnerships between law enforcement and the community.
Named the top-ranking National Night Out in Illinois and 10th in the nation last year, the Berwyn event draws thousands of attendees from across the Chicagoland area. This year’s attractions include an appearance by the cast of the Chicago-based reality tv series Wrecked – Life in the the crash lane; antique police vehicles on display, interactive fire & safety demonstrations, and a Bike Rodeo.
Additionally, visitors can enjoy food, music from Heartless, a performance by America’s Got Talent Chicago winner Julie Rose Melone, fireworks, and a Kid’s Zone activity area.
Presented by the City of Berwyn and the Berwyn Police and Fire Departments, this year’s festivities will also include demonstrations and attendance by representatives of the Cook County Bomb Squad, Emergency Service Disaster Agency (ESDA), the U.S. Marshal Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, DEA, and military and veterans groups from the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Interactive demonstrations and displays include tactical breaching equipment and weapons, a “Humvee” vehicle, miniature jet plane, climbing wall, chin-up bar and dog tag machine.
